Principle #6 – Move to Action and Help Others
This is the season for gratefulness and giving. Our resilience continues to be tested, not just in the United States but across the globe. There’s another COVID variant threatening the human race, and the climate crisis continues to cause havoc everywhere. This is supposed to be the happiest season of the year. You might be wondering…what’s happening? Will we ever be back to normal? Well…I think there’s another way to look at this. We can reframe our thinking from there are too many negative things happening to we can get through anything as long as we all do it together. Moving from negative thoughts to positive action.
“Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change.”
– Unknown
Let’s pause and think about the positive things going right in our lives. I’ll start…my family is healthy and happy. I’m fortunate to have a home, lovely neighbors, friends, and food on my table. And just this morning, my grandson won the spelling bee in his school! He will compete in February with other elementary schools in the county. He was confident, kept calm, and was fantastic! It was an excellent experience for him, and he’s very proud of himself. I’m also thankful to welcome a granddaughter in May. I’m excited to meet her and, of course, spoil her!
We have many positive things happening in our country too. Our federal government is working for all of us and passed the infrastructure bill and is now working on the economic/social part of the Build Back Better Bill. And we are fortunate to have plenty of COVID vaccines and health care heroes taking care of us.
“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”
– Eckhart Tolle
Now comes the not-so-great stuff. With an open mind, we can think about this differently. There is another COVID variant that has reached all countries. How can we move from negative to positive action? The best line of defense against COVID is vaccination. And if you’ve had the first two shots, get your booster. My hope is that the entire globe will get vaccinated in 2022.
The climate crisis continues to affect the planet, and it’s just the beginning until we have significant changes across the globe. 30 tornadoes ripped through six states last week. The damage was devastating; lost lives, families were displaced, and their homes and possessions were destroyed. And to make matters worse, it’s during the holidays. Children are wondering if Santa will come, and it’s just heart-wrenching. Does global warming cause tornadoes? We know our winters are warmer, and climate change may influence tornadoes’ intensity. Still, there isn’t enough data linking tornadoes and climate change. We can all do our part to save the planet. Drive a little less, walk a bit more, ride your bike, and drink water from washable cups instead of water bottles. We can do this together.
How in the world do we move to positive action after disasters? At times we may be divided, but we are a nation that works together during devastating weather events. We share the common value of helping others when we see people in need. Well, it’s that time again. Let’s move from our negative thoughts to positive action and help out if you are able. So, you see, we can look at our lives in two different ways. What is going well or what is going wrong. Life is only as good as our mindset and attitude. When we see goodness, life doesn’t seem as negative. I prefer to see the positive by appreciating the goodness and moving from negative thoughts to positive action. What about you? What positive ways can you help others?
“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make” ― Jane Goodall
This holiday season, appreciate your blessings and hug your family a little bit tighter. And move to positive action by giving to others when they need you most…now’s that time. I wish everyone love and a grateful and giving heart this holiday season and joy and peace in 2022! Happy holidays!
Freedom is possible!
Love,
Deb
