Principle #1 – Tap into Your Fun Quotient!
Wow! What a week we’ve had! Never a dull moment in the United States of America…at least at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! You may be totally tired of it. Tired of the chaos, tired of the pandemic, tired of the wildfires, and tired of the crazy weather. Well, let it go…sounds like a Disney song! If you’re like me, it’s easier said than done. So, you may be thinking, how do I let it go? Here’s an article from Very Well Mind that may help.
“Decide to get over it. You know, just let it go. It can be that simple.” – Danielle LaPorte
Think about the things that we can control. We can control how to be safe during the pandemic, and we can control what we watch on TV. I have to admit that I’m a little obsessed with the stories from the White House. It’s like a bad movie that never ends. I have to see what happens next! The drama leaves me shaking my head and asking, did that just happen?
It seems like the pandemic has been with us for a long, long time. And the civil unrest and chaos of our federal government leader have been around for even longer than that. It’s hard to let go of the nonsense and focus on the positive when there are so many people hurt and suffering.
Not only do I have a difficult time letting go of our current events, it’s hard for me to let things go in other areas of my life.
My husband and I went to Hawaii fifteen years ago for our 25th wedding anniversary. I planned everything…what were we going to do every morning and afternoon. We had fun, but it was a little stressful to keep up with a schedule. We went five years later for our 30th anniversary. And guess what? I didn’t have a schedule! We did whatever we wanted to do whenever we wanted to do it. We didn’t even have a map! We got lost many times, but how lost could we really get? Come on, the Hawaiian Islands are small. And we had the most fun. I learned a lot about myself during that trip. For the first time ever, I felt freedom instead of stress.
Give yourself permission to let it go and trust that everything will be okay. Let go of judgments about our leaders not wearing masks and hosting super spreading events. Let go of the stress of having to control everything and let things happen like they are meant to.
“Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. It allows others to be responsible for themselves and for us to take our hands-off situations that do not belong to us. This frees us from unnecessary stress.” – Melody Beattie
It’s stressful and exhausting, not to mention unhealthy, to try to control the outcome of everything. Because you can’t. Take a chill pill and listen to Bob Marley, “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”. Remember the things that make you happy. Appreciate your family and the time you get to spend together even if you have to wear a mask. Appreciate the front-line workers, scientists, and essential workers. Where would we be without them? Yikes!
The light is at the end of the tunnel. I have faith that next year our country will come together in unity, and our hearts will start healing. We will begin to see changes, so everyone feels valued and has the same opportunities. Also, we will have a vaccine so our bodies will heal, too.
But in the meantime, join me in ignoring the negative nonsense and appreciate the things that matter most. Let’s give ourselves the freedom to let it all go…to lose control and have fun!
Freedom is possible!
Love,
Deb
